Grancona


How to get there: Autostrada A4 VE-MI. Exit at Montecchio and drive south to Lonigo (10.4 km.). Shortcut: exit at Montebello. From Vicenz adrive to Montecchio, thence take the 500 provincial road to Lonigo. In Meledo turn left to Grancona (20.2 km). Driving down Riviera Berica road, in Ponte di Barbarano voltare turn right to Orgiano and thence right to Grancona.

Villa Aldighieri and its Oratory

Next to the villa visitors can see the Oratory of St. Apollonia. This small 13th century shrine is but a single apsed room, to which another floor was added in later times.

S Vicenzo's Parish Church, in Spiazzo

This Church is famous for a 15th century painting of the Deposition of Christ by Battista of Vicenza.

Il Sengio de Bruche

A remarkable example of cave-house, that is, a natural cavity transformed into a house where people have been living up to not so long ago. Such dwellings were not uncommon once in Colli Berici.

Museum of Rural Civilization

A private collection of old peasants' tools and daily-life memorabilia. Open to visits on request: tel. 0444.889533

Church of St Anthony the Abbot

This small church, formerly dedicated to S Vitale, has been there since at least 1266. Inside there can still be seen some Longobardic stone decorations, probably belonging to an ancient altar-piece, with entangled men, animals and spyrals.
